After graduating from high school in Dallas, Rick set-out for West Texas, where he enrolled at Texas Tech University. After graduating in 1970, he returned to Dallas for a career in marketing and sales at the Dallas Morning News. In the '80s he worked for several local retail and office developers; Folsom Investments and Beltway Development. In the '90s he worked as a Landlord Representative / Tenant Representative; JSC Realty. In 1998 he began providing Corporate Real Estate Services to a group of national clients while working at Fischer & Company. In 2003, Rick founded Marshall Partners, Inc. and began providing commercial real estate brokerage services to a select group of clients in the Dallas area.
